Miqat Locations to Wear Ihram for Hajj and Umrah

Miqat is the place where pilgrims put on Ihram to perform Hajj and Umrah. It is an obligatory stage for Pilgrims. There are some Miqats where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself has declared these places to be places of wearing Ihram.

Ihram is the first requirement of holy pilgrimages. Its Arabic root is to enter a state of purity or prohibition. A person who has acquired Ihram is referred to as a “Muhrim”. If one is not a Muhrim, the rituals of pilgrimage cannot be carried out.

Miqat Locations

There are five stations of Miqat as mentioned below. You can wear your Ihram clothing while travelling through any of the locations:

  1. Dhul-Hulayfah Miqat:

This Miqat is located in Dhul-Hulayfah about 450 kilometres from Makkah. It is located 10 kilometres from the city of Madinah and serves as a Miqat location for the Madinah pilgrims. If your journey starts from Madinah, then you can put on your Ihram from this place. However, wearing a white dress is not necessary for Masjid Dhul Hulayfah. You may also put it outside the Mosque.

 

  1. Al-Juhfat Miqat:

It is located 190 kilometres to the northwest of Makkah. This Miqat is used by pilgrims from Egypt, Syria, Spain, Morocco, and Palestine. Al-Juhfat is located near the city of Rabigh. Its name came into existence because of the small city Rabigh situated on the north side. Moreover, it’s the location where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) met his uncle.

  1. Dhat Irq Miqat:

Dhat Irq Miqat is approximately 94 kilometres northeast of Makkah. Pilgrims from Iran and Iraq use Dhat-Irq as the place of Ihram for pilgrimages. Additionally, it is the Ihram destination on the route from Kufa to Makkah. The location is named because of the largest mountain, Irq Aswad.

 

  1. Qarn al-Manazil Miqat:

It is commonly known as Miqat Saylul Kabeer, and it is located 94 kilometres from Makkah. Muslims from Taif and Najd go to Qarn al-Manazil to enter the state of Ihram. If you come from the Taif route, you can wear Ihram here. It is located 40 kilometres from Taif city local SEO houston. This place also acts as the Miqat for pilgrims coming from Riyadh, Australia, and Pakistan.

 

  1. Yalamlam Miqat:

There is a hilly area called Yalamlam at a distance of approximately 92 kilometres to the southeast of Makkah. Pilgrims coming from Yemen stop at this place to enter the state of Ihram. It’s a stopping point for those passing from Oman and a similar path. Likewise, this Miqat is for pilgrims from countries like South Africa, Nigeria, etc.
