Rajasthani Handicrafts: History

Rajasthan was ruled by many huge kings who contributed to the welfare and making of this state. One among them was Raja Sawai Maan Singh II. He was very fond of handmade items and wanted to decorate his huge palace only with Rajasthani Handicrafts. Raja Sawai Maan Singh II was the one who laid the foundation of handicrafts in India around 100 years prior to British rule.

He called some renowned artisans from different parts of the country where handicrafts were produced. The king asked them to manufacture something based on the Rajasthani culture and tradition. The artisans readily agreed and went on to study Rajasthani culture. After some time, the artisans came and presented their creations before the king.

On seeing those crafts the king became very happy and he rewarded the artisans. Inspiring by this incident the native Rajasthani people also tried crafting Handicraft Items. Initially, they failed. But gradually they learned how to manufacture Rajasthani Handicrafts. The king became very happy and he rewarded the natives. This is how Rajasthani Handicrafts came into being.
